EXCLUSIVE: El Paso Border Sector Leads in Migrant Detentions

The number of migrants detained in the El Paso Sector now surpasses detention levels in the Rio Grande Valley and Del Rio. According to a source within CBP, the sector was detaining nearly 5,000 in area processing centers on Monday. More than 50 percent of the detainees were Haitian.

Bi-National Border Security Operation Centers on West Texas Town

EAGLE PASS, Texas — Texas Army National Guard soldiers and Highway Patrol Troopers moved south along the Rio Grande to begin a bi-national operation with Mexican law enforcement. On Wednesday, authorities on both sides of the border moved into the remote area two miles south of the city.

A migrant woman living in Texas told a South Texas border rancher that she “expects” the federal government to deliver her smuggled child to her. A migrant woman, apparently unknown to the family, smuggled the child across the Rio Grande after being handed the child by human smugglers.

900 Pounds of Meth Seized at Texas Border Crossing

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to a border crossing in Laredo, Texas, seized more than 900 pounds of methamphetamine. The officers found the $18 million worth of drugs in a tractor-trailer attempting to enter the U.S. from Mexico.

Migrant Convicted of Rape in New York Caught Crossing AZ Border

Border Patrol Agents in Naco, Arizona, arrested a migrant previously convicted of sex offenses on Tuesday. Erik Contreras-Diaz, a Guatemalan citizen, was caught by the agents shortly after he illegally re-entered the country. Agents soon discovered Contreras was a registered sex offender from an attempted 1st degree rape in New York in 2016.

Two Mexican Men Charged with Hostage Taking, Smuggling, Weapons Violations in U.S.

The U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona filed charges against two Mexican nationals for their roles in an alleged human smuggling scheme that included extorting family members for the release of migrants being held for ransom. The suspects allegedly demanded a payment of $8,000 for each migrant being held against their will in Arizona.

DHS Preps for Title 42 End with Migrant Detention Center Construction

EAGLE PASS, Texas — The Department of Homeland Security began construction of a soft-sided migrant detention facility in a remote part of Maverick County. This marks the first project of its kind as part of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ Southwest Border Mass Irregular Migration plan. The facility is expected to be operational before June.
