U. of Michigan Prof Ousted from Shakespeare Class After Showing Sir Laurence Olivier’s ‘Othello’

A China-born music professor at the University of Michigan was forced out of teaching a Shakespeare class — and reported to the Office of Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX — after showing the classic 1965 film Othello to his class. The movie offended woke students because it features legendary actor Sir Laurence Olivier with darkened skin playing the title role.

U. of Michigan Student Government Accuses Israel of ‘Ethnic Cleansing’

The University of Michigan’s student government issued a statement this week accusing Israel of “ethnic cleansing” in reaction to the country’s response to Palestinian terrorists launching dozens of rockets at Israel from Gaza. According to the public university’s student government, “This is not a ‘conflict,’ but emblematic of Israeli settler-colonialism, ethnic cleansing, and apartheid.”

A guide published by the University of Michigan’s Information and Technology Services Department claims that the word “picnic” is offensive. The “inclusive language” list, which also includes words like “crazy and “dummy,” was designed to make students feel safer on campus.

The University of Michigan announced this week that it has named a scholarship after George Floyd, who died in police custody in May. The scholarship, which will formally be called the “George Floyd Memorial Scholarship Fund,” was established after a contribution from an alumnus.

U. of Michigan Offers Election Stress Counseling to Students

The University of Michigan announced this week that it is offering specialized counseling services to students that are experiencing stress as a result of Tuesday’s presidential election. Both students and faculty will have access this week to extensive counseling resources through the university. Despite the university’s messaging, students claim that they have to wait nearly a month before they can be seen by a campus therapist.

Professors at America’s colleges and universities took to social media over the weekend to celebrate President Donald Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis. A few even suggested that they laughed after learning of the President’s misfortune.

U. of Michigan Dearborn Hosts Racially Segregated ‘BIPOC’ and ‘Non-POC’ Events

The University of Michigan Dearborn hosted racially segregated events on Tuesday, one for “Non-POC,” and the other for “BIPOC” (Black, Indigenous, and People Of Color) students. During the two racially segregated “cafes,” the groups were encouraged to “discuss their experience as students on campus.” The university now says that it “sincerely regrets” describing the cafes as “Non-POC” and “BIPOC” events.

Lawsuit: Iowa State U. Muzzles Free Speech

Iowa State University is facing a lawsuit over three of its policies that critics say stifle the free speech rights of its students on campus. One of the policies includes the school’s “Campus Climate Reporting System,” which free speech advocates say incentivize students to self censor their political and religious views out of fear of being reported to university administrators.
